Pureheart Children’s center started in November 2018 by 3 mums who have children with special needs. Their reality was that they had no where to take their children for care and education during the day. The children were all home, and the entire burden of care was on these mums throughout the day. In the search for a place to take their children, a school within the Buduburum camp gave them a room to host the children. The school was unable to provide teaching staff to support, so the mum’s became the caregivers for the children with special needs in the school. Over time, they identified other children in the community who had disabilities, and invited them to come to the center. These families in turn also referred other caregivers to the center. Some children were abandoned at the center within the period, and are now fully under the care of these caregivers.
Presently, the school is being used as a displacement center, following the demolishing of the residences in the camp. The school is also under threat of being demolished in the coming weeks, leaving these caregivers and the children they care for in a dire situation.
Thank you for your support.
